For anyone that works in the Peninsula and lives in the city, a home near Caltrain can be a luxury, indeed. However, listings in the area generally fall into two categories: overpriced apartments in characterless high rises, or SOMA units which are just a tad too far from the station and in a bit too sketchy of an area to be considered a real deal. This week's Craigslist Deal happily fits neither of those descriptions and costs under $1800.
Located in a smaller building tucked near the Bay Bridge, the quasi-Miami Vice exterior (um, in a good way–we swear!) stands out some from the surrounding architecture without being an eyesore. The inside appeals as well, with 'Brazilian Cherry' hardwood floors, curved windows overlooking the waterfront, a simple yet modern kitchen (with dishwasher) and a washer and dryer in the unit. You also get access to 24-hour security, two fitness centers, and an outdoor heated pool. The location requires a short hop on the N or T to get to Caltrain, or a little walk to Embarcadero Station for access to BART. Believe us, finding a good-looking apartment in South Beach for under $2000 can be tough, so if you're interested we suggest moving on it fast. Junior 1 Bedroom at Portside
