Dessert Week

By

Much to my dismay, I had to turn down an invitation to a dessert and dessert wine pairing event at Lark Creek Steak last week. I’m not sure if that’s the culprit (because I need something other than my sweet tooth to blame) but as it turns out I ended up “dedicating” my entire week to dessert.

Here’s how it broke down:

Monday/Tuesday:
Pesce’s version of a deconstructed strawberry tart was flaky, creamy and perfectly sweet with the best of the season’s berries. We ate this around midnight—or just before—so it counts for both days.

Wednesday:
Chive catering handled the food at our luxury issue party, and while the savory food was delicious, the chocolate soufflé cake oozing with a molten chocolate-peanut butter center stole the show. And to think I almost missed this event….

Thursday:
I went to check out Piqueo’s, a new contemporary Peruvian spot in Bernal Heights. After trying an impressive number of piqueos (small plates), ceviches and entrees, we split (um, more like I devoured and my friend lightly nibbled) TWO desserts—the torta de chocolate and the flan de camote. The former was a dense chocolate cake with nuts on the outside, a huge scoop of a lucuma (like maple) ice cream and caramel sauce. The latter was my fave—a sweet potato flan with an orange-cinnamon sauce.

Friday: And last but not least, after a big, late lunch at Salt House, a few drinks at Bourbon & Branch and a sushi dinner at Okoze, I still managed to stop next door at Swensen’s for a scoop of homemade Turkish coffee ice cream.

Luckily I already planned a 50-mile bike ride for Saturday morning, although after a week like that, I should’ve biked 150!

If I embark on another dedicated dessert week, what spots should I hit?
