Oakland Week at the New Parkway Theater
WHAT: A celebration of films that showcase The Town— including films about Oakland, made by Oakland filmmakers, or prominently featuring Oaklanders—Oakland Week at the new Parkway Theater in Uptown comes to an end tonight with screenings of East Side Sushi (4:30pm), Fruitvale Station (6:30pm), The Waiting Room (7pm, with a post-film discussion), The Matrix Reloaded (8:40pm) and Licks (9:30pm). Settle into one of the many comfy sofas, popcorn and a beer in hand, and celebrate Oakland.

Folsom Street Fair
WHAT: The world's largest leather and fetish event, Folsom Street Fair returns this weekend with more than a dozen blocks dedicated to fetishes and fetishists of all sorts. The annual fair features a wide range of bands and DJs, including Adult, Yacht and Dragonette on the main stage. Over at the "Deviants Dance District" (the area between 12th and 13th streets on Folsom), be sure to catch DJs Jasmine Infiniti and Roi Perez. A $10 suggested donation benefits local and national charities, and it gets you $2 off each drink you buy at the fair all day long.

Back to the Future Trilogy at Castro Theater
WHAT: Experience the future all over again with Robert Zemeckis' time-traveling trilogy played back to back this weekend at the Castro Theater. Watch Marty McFly, Doc Brown and their suped-up DeLorean as they travel to the past, present and future, all from the comfort of your movie seat.

Jonathan Safran Foer at JCCSF
WHAT: The award-winning author of Everything Is Illuminated and Extremely Loud and Incredibly, Jonathan Safran Foer will be in San Francisco next week to promote hismuch-anticipated new novel, Here I Am. His first book in eleven years, Here I Am is the story of a fracturing family in a moment of crisis. At stake is the very meaning of home – and the fundamental question of how much life one can bear. He will be in conversation with Molly Antopol, author of The UnAmericans.

Kombucha Workshop at gather
WHAT: Elizabeth Vecchiarelli, owner of PRESERVED, will teach participants how to make their own refreshing probiotic beverages at home in this hands on class. Learn the history, nutritive value and the techniques of continuous brewing, flavoring and carbonating kombucha. Each student will receive an in-depth recipe guide and a bottle of flavored kombucha to ferment at home! The two hour class also includes wine and snacks and a discount on merchandise in the store that night.
