Dive into these hearty traditional meals this week.
Italian Traditions Return to Poggio
Poggio chef Benjamin Balesteri is hoping to revive an ancient Italian tradition this winter: Bollito Misto is a customary Milanese winter meal where various cuts of meats are slowly simmered and served tableside with a variety of handmade sauces. Sounds delicious, right? For the second year in a row, Balesteri is recreating the authentic Northern Italian dish and serving it from an imported Italian carello tableside. Meat selections include brisket, oxtail, and cotechino sausage among others. Offered January 21 - February 2 at dinner. $19 per order. 777 Bridgeway, Sausalito. Make reservations here.

Dashi and Katachi: Essence of Japan
Dashi, as any ramen aficionado knows, is the legendary broth of Japan, the foundation for both Japanese cooking and culture. Katachi is the coming together of form and meaning in everything from activities to products. Dashi Katachi, which runs from January 21 through February at Heath Ceramics, is a chance to explore both. On Friday, January 23, join the opening reception to celebrate the essence of modern Japan through the eyes and hands of talented Japanese makers who are reinterpreting traditional Japanese crafts. Then, go even deeper with intimate, hands-on Katachi workshops focusing on traditional Japanese skills that bring together form and meaning. Where else could you learn knife sharpening, tea cupping, and making everything from Japanese breakfasts, brass spoons, and wooden butter knives?
