Foodie Agenda: SF Food Bank, Vegan Pop-up and More


Take some time for your tastebuds this week and add these eatable dates to your calender. 

Thursday December 5

San Francisco Food Bank is partnering up with Mission Chinese and for an evening of exquisite food AND generosity. Head over to 20th Century Café between 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. to buy a gift certificate for some of the city’s most renowned restaurants (NoPa, Commonwealth, Outerlands, Prospect, Coi, Bi-Rite and more). Five dollars from each gift certificate sold will benefit San Francisco Food Bank to feed those in need during the holidays. Sweet little side note: everyone who buys a gift certificate will get a free piece of incredibly delicious Russian Honey Cake. 20th Century Cafe, 198 Gough St @ Oak.

Half Moon Bay Brewing Company is hosting another Brews & Views tonight at 6 p.m. Every first Thursday of the month the brewery invites us to drink beer and talk politics. Tonight’s topic of discussion will be the intended land use of Princeton, the area west of and including Highway 1, spanning between Pillar Point Harbor and Moss Beach. As mentioned in last week’s Foodie Agenda, Jon Bonné will be at Commonwealth Club tonight to talk about his new book “The New California Wine” and guide guests through a complimentary wine tasting.

Saturday December 7

In an attempt to add something special to San Francisco’s vegan scene, Pinkos Vegan Mercantile will be hosting their very first brunch and pop-up event near Golden Gate Park. They’ve got a menu so tasty it might attract some cynical non-vegans. Chilaquiles, tempeh bacon, and buckwheat blintzes with maple cinnamon cream cheese are the meal options and for your holiday shopping convenience several awesome vendors will be attending brunch. Herbivore Clothing, Swagger Cosmetics, 2 Cents Button Co and many more will be there to round out the pop-up experience. 9th Ave & Fulton St. 

Sunday December 8

Olive oil producer, McEvoy Ranch, is opening its Petaluma doors to the public this weekend. Their once-a-year open house event is a really great (and exclusive) opportunity to check out the gorgeous 550-acre estate and see exactly how they make their internationally renowned olive oil. Although the event is free they ask that guests RSVP here. Spots are filled but the waiting list is worth signing up for. Once you sign up, they will send you the address.

Tuesday December 10

Owner of Boccalone, Chris Costentino will be hosting a celebration of Gabriel Rucker’s new cookbook “Le Pigeon: Cooking at The Dirty Bird” at Incanto Restaurant. The five-course meal will be a marriage of both chefs’ creative minds. It includes foie gras (obviously), mackerel spaghettini, pigeon, crispy pigs head, and more. $69 covers dinner with an optional wine pairing and an opportunity to buy the book. Reservations are available from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Incanto Restaurant, 1550 Church Street @ Duncan.
