Former Mayor Willie Brown Will Be Your Guide on the Inaugural Barbary Coast Trail Walk

By

Here's a way to show off your Halloween costume around town: by participating in this Sunday's Barbary Coast Trail Walk, where flamboyant Grand Marshal Mayor Willie Brown (who, along with other guides, will be in Barbary Coast costumes) will lead you through the city's most historically vibrant neighborhoods. Participants in this inaugural 3.5-mile walking event will meet at Mint Plaza at 9 am and walk through downtown, Chinatown, North Beach, the Embarcadero, then clear on down to the water.

Pick out your favorite Barbary Coast gear and get into the spirit of the footloose and fancy-free ways of old San Francisco. You'll learn about all the crazy times had in the city's former red-light districts, all the debaucherous poets, sailors and strippers alike. They'll give you a Barbary Coast medallion, like the kind you see embedded in our sidewalks, which you can flash after the walk for free admission to the SF Maritime Museum's historic fleet of ships, plus a post-walk celebration at the Aquatic Park. If you need to get back to Mint Plaza, they'll shuttle your butt back from 11:30 am-2 pm! Register here for the walk.
