Honey Baby: A Three-Step Program for Bee-ing Here Now


Nothing to sweeten a rainy day like honey. For a three-step honey and honey bee immersion program, this is your week.

1. THE FILM First you must understand the honeybee. You know the bees are disappearing but do you really understand the impact of this mysterious phenomenon? Buy a ticket to attend the bitter-sweet film, Queen of the Sun: What Are The Bees Telling Us?, put on by Slow Food San Francisco. Yes, the film has an interview with Michael Pollan (don't they all?), but better yet, filmmaker Taggart Siegel will be there for a Q and A. Friday, March 25. 2. THE DRINK Now that you've seen the honeybee reality, it's time to drown your sorrows. Get yourself to "Making Mead and Other Honey-Fermented Beverages," a class put on by Urban Kitchen celebrating man's first fermented beverage. Taught by Robert MacKimmie of City Bees, you'll be sent home with a gallon of mead ready to put in a corner and let it become booze. Tuesday, March 29, 6–8 pm, $54. At the Women's Building in the Mission District.

3. THE LIFESTYLE If you're interested in being a beekeeper yourself, sign up for the San Francisco Beekeepers Association's Beekeeping 101 class where you can learn all the basics. On Sunday, weather permitting (and let's just say right now the weather is not permitting much), you'll actually get to handle some live bees. Interested? Email classes@sfbee.com.
