Listen Up: Of Montreal, Snoop Dogg, Maus Haus and Spinnerette Play This Week

After a slow couple of weeks on the show circuit, the second half of summer tours are beginning to pick up speed once again. From big names to small local fames, every single venue in the City seems to be featuring at least one showstopper this week. Check out our picks for the week:

Gregg Allman, The Independent, 7/21-22: The man’s a legend. Heck, he’s practically an institution. Gregg was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 1995 because of his illustrious contributions The Allman Brothers Band. He’s been named one of the “100 Greatest Singers Of All Time” by Rolling Stone and recently won a Lifetime Achievement Award. He’s stopping by The Independent for a 2-night southern rock sesh. Don’t miss it.

The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart, Rickshaw Stop, 7/21: This NYC noise pop show has been sold out for quite some time and they’ve been gaining quick momentum over the last couple of months. They even scored a couple features in Paste, SPIN and Rolling Stone recently. If you’re smart, you’ll start scalping on Craigslist right now.

Micachu & The Shapes and Tempo No Tempo, Rickshaw Stop, 7/22: London-based art-punk avant-electronic, Micachu & The Shapes is teaming up with TUnE-YaRdS and some of our Berkeley faves, Tempo No Tempo for a bill that is sure to be decidedly unpredictable and packed to the brim with experimental envelope-pushing beats.

Of Montreal, The Fox Theater, 7/24: The legendary disco funk indie band is channeling David Bowie and Freddie Mercury for their newest album, Skeletal Lamping. For a chance to win free tickets check out our contest here, but hurry up, the winner will be chosen soon!

Bedouin Soundclash, Slim’s, 7/24: These guys are kind of a big deal and if you haven’t heard them yet, then here’s your big chance. They’re currently the openers for No Doubt on their big comeback tour, but they’re doing a smaller show at Slim’s on Friday. Their sounds clash (pun intended) reggae and roots rock right up against punk and soul without ever skipping a beat. Bedouin Soundclash is right at home with genre-benders and have shared a stage with the likes of Ben Harper, Damian Marley, The Roots, Gogol Bordello, Thievery Corporation and many more in years past.

Slightly Stoopid, Snoop Dogg, Damian Marley and Mickey Avalon, Shoreline Amphitheater, 7/24: The Blazed And Confused Tour is finally upon us. In a bizarrely paired tour that seems to be oh so right, these big names will be strolling through Shoreline with a particular sticky green substance fully stocked and ready to blow. If you’re not into the second-hand high though, we highly suggest skipping this show.

Maus Haus, Bottom Of The Hill, 7/25: Our favorite local, synth-heavy experimental indie group has emerged in their first show since April. Maus Haus will supposedly be test driving a handful of brand spanking new songs from their new album they’ve been holed up creating. We’re sure it’ll be another masterpiece. Openers include Tempo No Tempo’s Tyler McCauley spinning as DJ Gatsby, Pierre Le Robot and LA’s very own Rainbow Arabia. It’s going to be a huge night, get there early.

Spinnerette, Great American Music Hall, 7/27: The emergence of this band had somewhat of a freak amount of news coverage, but when every person in the band has an already established reputation, what can you really expect? Spinnerette is comprised of amazing songwriter and lead singer, Brody Dalle (The Distillers), Tony Bevilacqua (The Distillers) on guitar, Jack Irons (Eleven, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pearl Jam) on drums, and Alain Johannes (Eleven, Queens of The Stone Age) on bass and more guitar. Do you see our point?

Glasvegas, Regency Grand Ballroom, 7/27: The Glasgow-based band has been taking the scene by storm, surprising critics and fans alike with their stunning stage performance. They’ve been nominated for upwards of a dozen international awards and they've only just premiered their first album in 2008. Pretty impressive stuff.
