After spending much of 2014 serenading the living rooms of America, Alec Ounsworth and his band Clap Your Hands Say Yeah are ready for traditional stages once again. The band is touring in support of its lush new album, their fourth, titled Only Run. The album features a cameo from The National’s Matt Berninger, but if you need more incentive, PopMatters says “Only Run feels full of ... energy, the desperation and freedom of needing to prove yourself again.”
Friday: Purity Ring at Fox Theater
The wait is over. Obsessed fans have been clamoring for years for a follow to Purity Ring’s groundbreaking 2012 debut album Shrines. (I wouldn’t shut up about it). Reviews were mixed, but whatever — we have new Purity Ring and it’s pretty good! Another Eternity features more mind-bending trap beats underscoring wopping elecrto hooks, and lead singer Megan James’ evocative lyricism. Check out the first single from the album, “Push Pull.”
San Francisco’s Vetiver doesn’t get enough love, but their most recent album, The Errant Charm, is making up for lost praise. The album marks a turning point for the band, a journey into the unknown and known, a postmodern folk/jazzy rock amalgamation conceptualized in the Richmond district and the mind of bandleader Andy Cabic. The album is being hailed as potentially among the year’s best albums. (musicOMH)

Let’s party y’all. Chuck Prophet, Ben Fong-Torres, Jello Biafra, Tim Bluhm (The Mother Hips), Andy Cabic (Vetiver), Novena Carmel (daughter of Sly Stone), Karina Denike (Dance Hall Crashers), Penelope Houston (The Avengers), Debora Iyall (Romeo Void), Bill Kirchen, Mark Kozelek (Sun Kil Moon), Roy Loney (Flamin’ Groovies), Jill Olson (Red Meat), Prairie Prince (The Tubes), Jorge Santana (original member and leader of Malo), Kelley Stoltz, Sal Valentino (Beau Brummels), and many other local musicians will help celebrate City Hall’s 100th birthday on Friday.
