Locked & Loaded: The Cult of Barefoot Job Hunting Edition

By

When people talk Bay Area specialty roasters, especially in San Francisco, you tend to hear three names over and over: Blue Bottle, Ritual, and Four Barrel. Of course, there's good reason for that. All are excellent, and can be found all over the city. But of course there are many other great roasters in the Bay Area. And one in particular, Barefoot Coffee Roasters, seems to inspire an almost cult-like level of devotion and in this case one of the most, um, interesting job application videos we've ever seen.

I'm a huge Barefoot fan myself, and typically make a point to try its new coffees as soon as I find out about them. And I'm not alone. Spend a morning at Epicenter Cafe (one of the company's retailers here in San Francisco) and you'll often see customers come in to order a cap, and leave with a bag of beans under each arm. Mark Prince, of CoffeeGeek fame, recently called Barefoot his favorite roaster in California, which is quite a strong statement. But few things could have prepared us for Tessa Crandell's job application that she put together to try to score a barista gig with Barefoot.

According to Crandell, who claims to be 85 years old, Barefoot keeps her skin porcelain smooth, cured her eczema, and makes for delightful bathing. And apparently, dramatically improves the flavor of your bathwater. It's kind of special. But don't take our word for it, just watch the video. We're still waiting to hear whether or not she got the job.
