We all understand the importance of literacy, but when do we really get a chance to help? Well look no further, because on Thursday, September 20, Jumpstart’s Read for the Record campaign is holding a nation-wide shared reading day, hoping to break the already established Guinness Book of World Records-awarded number of 150,000 children who participated in 2006. Last year’s successful shared reading day featured the childhood favorite The Little Engine That Could. This year adults are urged to read The Story of Ferdinand to any child in your life, or in your community. Even if you don’t have the opportunity to participate directly in the shared reading day, you can still help the cause by purchasing a copy of Jumpstart’s limited edition copy of The Story of Ferdinand, donate a book to a child in need or even to help promote Read for the Record in your community. Join in on the celebration of literacy and help kick off the event at the 10 a.m. press conference at the San Francisco Main Public Library and/or go to Read for the Record’s website to help out.
