Sidewalk Chic: Perfect Fit in Union Square

By

Name: Robert Shabazz

Age: 21

Occupation: Student at Academy of Art University

Spotted:Laeken sample sale at Shotwell, 7:47 p.m.

Wearing: Vintage raspberry velvet blazer and bowtie, tailored shirt and slacks, wingtips by Seven

How do you define your style? "Classically formal with a slightly modern, edgy twist. I like to look professional and well put-together, while still being fun and young."

What do you find most important when selecting an outfit? "The main thing with picking an outfit is my level of comfort.  Not necessarily physically, but how I well I feel the outfit will help me portray myself confidently to the world.  This usually comes down to how well things fit.  I'm really short, so I like my clothing to be perfectly sized.  If something is too big at the slightest, it just won't work."

What's your biggest fashion secret? "Basically all my clothing is women's and junior pieces from vintage stores and eBay."

Why we love his look: Shabazz's style is fearless yet thoughtfully assembled, showcased in a striking ensemble that suits him to a T.

Where to get it: To achieve a similar look, we chose a vintage YSL velvet blazer, a well-constructed dress shirt and pair of wool pants by Hugo Boss, topped off with a 1960s bow-tie and classic two-tone wingtips.
