South Lake Tahoe Celebrates a Belated Earth Day

By

Earth Day may have come and gone, but South Lake Tahoe is still celebrating on Saturday, April 28, when the annual help-the-planet party sets up camp from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Bijou Community Park.

Among the diversions in this environment-awareness gathering are a Speaker Corner, which will discuss topics ranging from Lake Tahoe aquatic invasive species to the history of the lake to edible plants of the Sierra, a bike fix-it booth where you can get your wheels in shape for the summer, a kids' eco-costume parade (best costume will win a 2012-13 season pass at Kirkwood Mountain Resort), food booths featuring local restaurants and vendors, and music by South Lake's Groovebox, a funk, progressive, jam-influenced band.

Celebrating Mother Earth can build up an appetite, so why not assuage that hunger by taking part in the South Tahoe Supper Stroll and Storyteller Night later that evening?

The first seating begins at 5:30 p.m. and consists of a salad course at Nepheles, entree at Blue Angel Cafe Loft and dessert at Riva Grill. The adults-only stroll could also include some bawdy storytelling.

Tickets are $65 per person -- proceeds to benefit the El Dorado County Library -- and reservations (a must)  can be booked at (415) 992-2433.
