You'd be a fool to pass up a $1 gourmet meal delivered straight to your door.
Meal delivery service SpoonRocket is trying to set a Guinness World Record this week for the biggest citywide dinner party EVER, and that means you get to eat for (almost) free! The Berkeley-based startup is offering $1 meals from 5 - 9 pm on Monday, July 21 and Tuesday, July 22 and hopes to deliver more than 13,000 dishes in San Francisco. (East Bay residents, you're out of luck this time).
“The idea is to get every resident in SF to participate in the city’s largest dinner party. No need to cook or wash dishes—just have your friends over for a good time and we’ll do the cooking for you. That way, you get to be a host who can actually sit and enjoy dinner with your guests,” said CEO Steven Hsiao.
Today, customers can choose between old-fashioned beef and garden vegetable stew, vegetable lasagna, or a fresh salmon Niçoise salad. Tuesday’s menu has oven-roasted Provençal free-range chicken with vegetables from the farmers’ market, spinach ricotta ravioli, and a Southwestern salad with fresh local albacore tuna.
To participate: place your order, take a picture of your meal, and post it on Facebook with #SFDinnerParty. Note, only one entree per person, per day, and remember to RSVP, so they know how many deliveries to expect.
“We hope it turns into an annual SF event. Imagine, a city of 800,000 residents having dinner together, not literally of course; but everyone enjoying small dinner parties with their friends and family, who can then talk about the same food with their coworker the next day,” said Co-Founder Anson Tsui.
