Street Style: The Men (and Murals) of San Francisco's Mission District

After readers went gaga for our recent look at the dapper men of the Financial District, we crossed town to see how the dudes are stepping out in a very different neighborhood: the Mission.

The style here, as you might imagine, is a departure from downtown's suits and ties. In fact, in the Mission, it seems just about anything goes—from Kid 'n Play hair to way oversized suits. But however crazy the looks, most are thoughtfully and carefully chosen. Photographer Bart Edson shares his insight.

"This shoot was very different from the FiDi shoot. In FiDi, I photographed mostly loners who wanted their personal space respected and weren't always thrilled to engage with me. In contrast, the people of the Mission were open and friendly, often with friends and family, and were eager to mix it up. I'd also say that the people of the Mission put more time and thought into their style than the men of FiDi, though it's definitely a different kind of style."

Captivated by the colorful neighborhood, Edson also captured some of the Mission's eye-popping murals. We hope you enjoy this look at one of SF's most iconic 'hoods.

For a totally different flavor, peep The Men of San Francisco's Fidi!
