"Summer Show"
This group exhibit at Eli Ridgway Gallery reads like a "Best Of" showcase. Look for work by local stars Mauricio Ancalmo, Chris Duncan, Sean McFarland, castaneda/reiman, Matthew Palladino, and Rebecca Goldfarb. Take note of the summer's hallway project by Mark Benson—potted flowers squeezed onto too-close-to-the-ceiling shelves that bring up questions of constraint—and the Salt Water Battery experiment in the gallery's project space by Andrew McClintock.
When: Through Sat. 8/17
Where: Eli Ridgway Gallery, 172 Minna St.

The Science of Brewing
Learn the art and science of beer making at this week's nightlife with both talks and tastings. Jesse Friedman of Almanac Beer and Kim Sturdavant of Social Kitchen & Brewery will expound upon the benefits of local production, and Anchor Brewing Company head brewmaster Mark Carpenter will enlighten you about Anchor's long history in the Bay Area. But the night wouldn't be complete without a beer hall in the museum's African Hall, with samples from the likes of 21st Amendment, Pacific Brewing Company, Lagunitas, Drake's, Speakeasy, and more. We'll drink to that!
