This weekend marks the middle of summer. San Francisco can be a bit of a lottery when it comes to summer weather - will the fog roll in today or not? But head north over the Golden Gate Bridge and you are almost guaranteed beautiful, hot days. Here are three things calling us North this weekend.
Go to the Sonoma County Fair
The Sonoma County Fair kicks off this weekend with a myriad of activities for the entire family. With wine country racing, headline entertainment, spectacular carnival rides, junior and professional livestock shows and more, there is sure to be something for everyone. Along with the usual carnival exhibits, this weekend also plays host to the Ladies’ Hat Day and two separate rodeos. So pack up the car and head north for some good wholesome fun with the family this weekend. Entry is $10, Children under 6 are free.
When: Saturday, July 28 and Sunday, July 29. From 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Where:Sonoma County Fairgrounds, 1350 Bennett Valley Road, Santa Rosa.
Enjoy a Wine Adventure Weekend
Take a wine adventure around the “new” Wine Country at California’s Lake County. Eventgoers will be able to sample some of the distinct high-elevation award winning wines from participating Lake County Wineries. Along with tasty hors d’oeuvres, participants of this two-day, passport style event, will be able to enjoy barrel tastings, entertainment, winery tours, wine and food pairings, and other fun and sustainable wine activities. Tickets cost $35 presale and can be purchased here. The ticket price includes a logo wine glass, tasting booklet, adventure map, reusable wine bag, and the chance to win fantastic prizes in a raffle.
When: Saturday, July 28 and Sunday, July 29. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Hike Mount Tamalpais
Pack a picnic lunch and grab your hiking shoes. The Mt. Tamalpais Interpretive Association offer guided hikes around most of the parks 50 miles of beautiful, scenic trails. This Sunday Robert Freinkel will be taking a hike dedicated to stream in summer. It will be an in depth look at how the seasons directly affect nature, and how the environment can adapt to different weather conditions. Over the entire 7 miles participant will enjoy breathtaking scenery as well as learning about the geological history of the region. Don’t be fooled by the mild SF summer, it can get really hot north of the city, so participants should be prepared with plenty of water and sunblock.
