Break out your beret, red scarf, and horizontal stripes today as San Francisco celebrates French National Day with a series of Bastille Day bashes. The other red, white, and blue holiday commemorates the Storming of the Bastille - and the start of the French Revolution - on July 14, 1789. The French typically mark the holiday with public parades, spectacular fireworks, live music, and delicious food. You won't find a parade or fireworks display in San Francisco, but you will find plenty of opportunities to get in touch with your inner Francophile.
Claude Lane is turning the holiday into a long weekend with a "Let Them Eat Cake" party through Monday, July 14. All the eateries along the Frenchest alley in the City will be offering food and wine specials for $17.89 and, of course, cake. They're also running an Instagram contest in which diners can win a $100 gift certificate for posting creative photos taken at any of the restaurants and tagged #ClaudeLane. We suggest a selfie with Marie Antoinette, who will bring special treats to the tables at Café Claude, Gitane and Gaspar Brasserie on Bastille Day from 7:30 to 10:30 pm.
Café Claude's $17.89 French wine flight includes Terra Laura and Cheverny Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, Philipe Gilbert Mentou-Salon Pinot Noir, and Berthoumieu Madiran Tannat. Also on the menu is Gâteau de Libération (Liberation Cake) made of toasted almond bisquit cake layered with blueberry and valrhona white chocolate mousse, and raspberry glaze. On Monday, Café Claude will serve up three, 3-hour sets of live music from 11:30 am to 10:30 pm. 7 Claude Lane

Food and beverages will be available for purchase on site from Embarcadero Center eateries and Rye on the Road. Two Embarcadero Center
Finally, Grand Café Brasserie and Bar isn't hosting a Bastille Day party, but since they're closing down at the end of this month, French National Day could be your last best chance to bid them adieu. They're offering a complimentary glass of sparkling wine with every brunch or dinner reservation between now and their last dinner service on July 30. 501 Geary Street
