Mission's Soap Gallery's "Matchbox Show" Kicks Off Tonight

By

It may be cold outside but the Mission's Soap Gallery is on fire. 50 artists, 500 matchboxes and a whole lot of heat come together for this new-wave group show. Construction and deconstruction, transform/reform/inform—the exhibit explores simple shapes and common ideas that have been altered to the point that they take on new meaning. Jan Evenson quite literally burns down the house while Matt Cella turns needlepoint into match point.

"Matchbox Show" is on view at Soap Gallery from December 11 through January 10. Opening reception: 12/11 from 6 - 9 p.m., Soap Gallery, 3180 Mission St., 415-920-9199.
