Drink Here Now: 5 Places to Sip This Week

Arlequin Wine Merchant

1. Skrewcap Tastings at Nectar: If you're a fan of bubbles, Pamela Busch of Skrewcap is doing a pair of sparkling wine-centric tastings at Nectar Wine Lounge in the Marina. The first, this Saturday, is a "Bubbles on a Budget" tasting, featuring outstanding and well-priced sparkling wine from around the globe. Next Saturday, she'll shift the focus to authentic Champagne, complemented with bubbles from California-based Schramsberg. Admission to the first tasting is $20; the second is $30. Those interested in getting the party started early should swing by Nectar for their new Saturday brunch, featuring fresh-pressed juices and mimosas from Thrive Juicery. (Saturday, December 8 and Saturday, December 15, 1:30-3 pm, at Nectar Wine Lounge, 3330 Steiner St., Marina.)

2. Arlequin Wine Merchant's Champagne Tasting: Also on the bubbles beat, the annual holiday sampling of champagne at Arlequin is a beloved tradition among local wine fans, and this year's lineup promises to be as strong as ever, with 35 champagnes primarily sourced from small grower-producers (many of which pack as much flavor as the big names, with a lower price tag). It's a great opportunity to sample and stock up on a few favorites for holiday parties and dinners, not to mention your New Year's Eve toast. Tickets are $65 at the door. (Thursday, December 6, 5-8 pm, at Arlequin Wine Merchant, 384 Hayes St., Hayes Valley.)

3. Repeal Day at 21st Amendment: No plans tonight? Consider celebrating the anniversary of Repeal Day, when the U.S. finally got wise and chucked out Prohibition, at a couple of local bars. 21st Amendment (named for the very amendment that got the job done) is kicking off the festivities with a parade at 4 pm, followed by five-cent beers, live jazz, and a charity poker game. You'll need a secret password to get in, clues to which you'll find on their Twitter feed. Meanwhile, the folks at Cantina are hosting a Repeal Day Costume Ball, with attendees encouraged to dress as their favorite drink. Admission is $10, and the cocktails will be flowing. (Wednesday, December 5, 5 pm-2 am, at 21st Amendment, 563 2nd St., SOMA; 8 pm-2 am at Cantina, 580 Sutter St., Union Square.)

4. ClemenTime Microhood Crawl: The Bold Italic is teaming up with the merchants of the Inner Richmond for a second "microhood" event, with plenty of opportunities to snag discounts, free gift wrapping, or gifts with purchase at the local shops. As you browse, grab a free beer at Green Apple Books or Parklife, a glass of wine at Seedstore or Covet Boutique, or spiked eggnog at Pretty Please Bakeshop, then finish off the evening at The Neck of the Woods, which will have $3 beers and well drinks and $1 pizza and 50-cent wings from neighboring Freddie's Trattoria. RSVP here so they can get a head count. (Thursday, December 6, 5-9 pm, Clement St. between 2nd and 9th Aves.)

5. Holiday Indie Mart: Check a few more gift recipients off your list at the holiday edition of the popular Indie Mart, with over 45 DIY and crafts vendors hawking their wares for seasonal shopping. This year, they're taking over Speakeasy Brewery, which means plenty of $3 drafts, food trucks, and sweets to keep you fueled for buying, as well as a chance to check out the brewery's new taproom, designed by Workshop and Indie Mart maven Kelly Malone. Hit the "dirty Santa" booth, then catch one of the $3 shuttles back to the heart of the city. More info here. (Saturday, December 8, 12-6 pm, at Speakeasy Ales & Lagers, 1195 Evans Ave., Bayview.)
