Should you have the scratch to splurge on one food event this week, let it be this one. Amanda Hesser, Times food writer and author of the massive new New York Times Cookbook, will be speaking with Omnivore Books owner Celia Sack on "The Art of Food Writing." Tickets are $100, and Daniel Patterson of Coi will be preparing the snacks. The event will be held on November 7 from 7-9 p.m. at the Women's Building, and you can purchase your tickets right here.

Prospect Happy Hour
Now that you're no longer obligated to head to the sports bars after work, it's time to kick Happy Hour up a notch. The place to do it is at Prospect, where there nacks ($4-5) like fried oysters with tasso aïoli and chips with French onion dip, three cocktails (from $5-7), as well as 2 wines on tap and 2 rotating beers (both $5). Every Monday through Friday, from 4-6 p.m.

Bread Guru Chad Robertson at Omnivore Books
If you are a member of the Tartine Bakery cult, you'll want to mosey over to Omnivore Books on Saturday, November 6, to hear co-owner and baker Chad Robertson talk about his new book, Tartine Bread. The event is free and runs from 1-2 p.m.

DIY Booze at 18 Reasons
It's getting to be that time of year, when giving (and drinking) festive libations becomes a national pastime. Get in on the act early at the DIY Holiday: Infusions and Liquersclass at 18 Reasons on November 9. Sean Timberlake of the blog Hedonia will teach attendees how to infuse and create exciting, delicious hooch. The class is drop-in and the cost is $10 for general admission, $5 for members.

Bon Appetit Editor-in-Chief at Macy's
Avid bakers, take note: Bon Appétit's soon-to-be-departed Editor-in-Chief, Barbara Fairchild, will be at Macy's in Union Square on November 11 at 6 p.m., presenting the brand's latest book, Bon Appétit Desserts. Jam-packed with over 600 recipes, it's guaranteed to make life especially sweet. The event is free, but RSVP to reserve your place by calling 800-786-2664.
