1. Apple of our eye
If you haven’t made your way over to Cavallo Point cooking school (and the wonderful on-premise restaurant, Murray Circle) yet, here’s your chance: This Friday, precede your night of tricking with a treat from the kitchen—caramel apples! Heirloom apples will be dunked in homemade caramel for a gooey holiday treat. The free event begins at 3:30 p.m. and continues until 5 p.m.; afterwards, you can take your kids to the fancy Marin neighborhoods for their annual candy run.

2. Wild child
Pay homage to Sarah Palin by making reservations for Big 4’s annual Wild Game Week, which runs from November 4 to the 8th. The menu will feature buffalo, wild boar and Himalayan yak, along with the Wasilla-mayor approved Elk. For more information (and to make reservations), click here.

3. Dead can dance
Lest all the Halloween cause you to forget, Sunday, November 2, is Day of the Dead. Get in on the action by decorating sugar skulls at Casa Bonampak, joining in on the annual procession (details here) and, best of all, indulging in sweet pan de muertos, a bread traditionally made for the holiday and decorated with bones and skulls (or, like the version at Arizmendi, made to resemble a corpse). You can pre-order from Arizmendi or sample it on the fly from one of the many Mexican bakeries in the Mission. Or, try your hand at making your own.

4. Countdown to victory
The killa from Wasilla vs. Joe “foot in mouth” Biden—where best to watch the future of our nation unfold? You could go to the corner bar (where, hopefully, you’ll be doing more celebratory toasting than drowning your sorrows), but, well, this is a historic one and deserves to be celebrated in style. Head to Yoshi’s on November 4 for their “Green 960 Election Night party.” Bill Press will be on hand with breaking election news and state-by-state rundowns. And, if things start looking grim, at least the cocktails and food are good. Tickets are $5 ($25 for VIP) and the showcase showdown begins at 5 p.m. Want this poster (below) from Yee Haw? 5. Halloween hospitality
Dine at Terzo on Halloween
(Friday, October 31) and the restaurant will donate 10% of the proceeds from the evening to Streetsmart4Kids, a non-profit organization that benefits local city youth and family programs. 6. We be jammin’
Want to get jamming? Bring your own fresh fruit and clean canning jars to the YBCA on November 1 and learn to make jam with the folks at the Fallen Fruit Collective, an activist art project that maps public fruit in our neighborhoods. The collective will lead a discussion about the basics of jam and jelly, then help you produce your own for trade or take-home. The event runs from noon until 5 p.m. and is free, but tickets are required and can be obtained right here.

7. Pigging out
If you’re looking for an excuse to get out of town this weekend, here’s a good one: Amuse Cochon, a one day pork-a-palooza taking place on November 2 in Napa. Five chefs (Ryan Farr, formerly of Orson, Chris Cosentino of Incanto, Taylor Boetticher of the Fatted Calf, Allan Benton of Benton Hams and Peter Pahk, chef at Silverado) will each prepare a 70-pound heritage pig from stem to stern and judges and guests will then partake of pig before declaring a winner based on creativity, classic preparation and overall best flavor. Tickets are $100 each, but lucky Slow Food members and industry folks can get in on the action for $80.
