Go Green or Bust: SF's Vegan Fashion Show
SF is the epicenter for all things green, so it was only due time before a vegan fashion show would sprout up. Sounds quirky, but don't expect to see potato sack frocks and hemp pants strutting down the runway. Instead, look forward to seeing a range of fresh cuts and edgy creations from the likes of Reco Jeans, Vaute Couture, and Melie Bianco, to name a few. This fashion show, a first for SF, is sure to set us straight that being vegan — inside and out — can be simultaneously conscious and cool. Check out the cruelty-free action on Oct. 2 at Golden Gate Park. More info here.
I am not following the logic here. First, you say you would not hire or support her because she doesn't pay people. Then, you say you don't have a problem with her asking for volunteers but that your REAL issue is overposting on Craigslist and that that somehow makes her business "shady"? It's fine to criticize someone or their business with legitimate issues but your statements flip flop so much it's hard to tell what your real issue with Karine Brighten Events is- other than maybe being someone with a personal bone to pick with the owner or someone who is disgruntled about their lack of employment.
There is no problem with people looking for volunteers.
I can attest that the SF vegan fashion show has posted over 30 times on craigslist looking for volunteers. I know because I have been looking for a job.
If your actions are shady, be prepared to be criticized.
I worked with Karine at the Farm Sanctuary Walk for Farm Animals where she was one of the two volunteer coordinators for one of the top 5 walks out of the 70 cities the walks take place in. My company was the sponsor. Karine was instrumental in helping to raise over $12,000 for Farm Sanctuary. I am now one of the other coordinators and I can tell you it is hundreds of hours of unpaid work. Karine does a TON of free work for the animals rights community. If Karine is asking for volunteers for an event, I can pretty much guarantee you that she is not getting paid either. If someone posts to Craigslist looking for volunteers, you don't have to reply if you aren't interested but it's really not fair to slander her or her company on message boards.
DTM - perhaps you should do your research before you assume anything. Karine is actually doing some free labor of her own by putting on this event on a volunteer basis.
If you knew anything about her, you would know exactly just how much she actually gives back to the community
Just as an aside, I know Karine does a lot of events pro-bono. Since she isn't getting paid, she looks for volunteers. Its not about free labor, its about finding people who are excited about the work.
Good to know is Karine Brighten Events is producing this event.
Don't know much about her or her production company but a HUGE red flag is they are constantly spamming Craigslist looking for free labor.
Would not hire or support someone who is not willing to pay people.........
