It's Time for Sunday Streets in The Mission This Weekend!

By

Dust off your bike, tighten your roller skate wheels, and find that hula hoop that still has Playa dust on it...because this weekend is Sunday Streets. The open streets event kicked off the 2013 season on the Embarcadero last month, but it’s this weekend when it really kicks into high gear. Sunday Streets is taking over the Mission District the full length of Valencia and much of 24th Street.

You could easily spend the five hours (11 am-4 pm) of Sunday Streets sitting in a parklet, drinking iced coffee and watching the city go by. But if you’re looking to engage even more, here are four fun activities to fill your Sunday Streets adventures:

  1. Teach your kiddo to ride a bike (Valencia and 23rd Street): The San Francisco Bicycle Coalition teaches Freedom From Training Wheels sessions that teaches kids how to balance and ride without the aid of clunky training wheels.
  2. Swing dance lessons (Valencia and 22nd Street): Grab a partner and learn to swing. Classes every hour by Swing in the Mission.
  3. How to build a bike workshop (Valencia and 18th Street): The folks at Mission Bicycle are offering free classes in bike building throughout the day. Pedal on over and learn the basics.
  4.   Roller Disco (Valencia and 22nd Street): Who says Golden Gate Park should have all the roller disco fun? Grab your skates and meet up with the Funkytown crew for some 70s skate action.

There are tons more Sunday Streets adventures to be had. Find your favorite here.
