San Francisco's Favorite Charities: Send Us Your Nominations!
The holidays are creeping towards us once again (there is Halloween candy already on our desks here at 7x7), yet it seems like not so long ago when we first asked the City to rally together to name their favorite charities doing the hardest and best work for their fellow San Franciscans. This fall, we've partnered with one of the largest corporate philanthropists in the Bay Area, Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E), in a big way to kick off the second year of honoring your favorite charities in the spirit of the season of giving.
Starting today, put your thinking caps on and nominate your favorite San Francisco-based charities (the organization must be a 501(C)(3) and based in San Francisco), because the winner will walk away with a generous donation on behalf of PG&E. We'll choose seven top finalists–six of which will receive $2,000. And the charity with the most votes? They'll walk away with a whopping $10,000 to take their efforts to the next level. Thank you to PG&E who has generously offered to provide these grants to each of the seven finalists.
Here's the timeline:
-Send us your nominations here until October 10.
-On October 19, we'll post the Top 49 charities nominated, and the voting frenzy begins.
-On November 16, we'll reveal the Top 7 finalists for a second round of voting.
-We'll announce the winner on December 13 right here on 7x7.com. This top-voted organization will be featured in our March 2012 issue, and we'll highlight the other six finalists.

My vote is for Taproot Foundation. They are a enabler for people inclined to volunteer to take that important step. Once a volunteer, Taproot provides first class support, excellent resources, and through there interview process, ensures the non-profit clients gets first class pro bono consultants. It turns the phrase, "you get what you paid for" on its head.
Lyon-Martin!
Lyon-Martin!!
I add my vote for Lyon-Martin, one of San Francisco's oldest established health clinics. Since 1979 Lyon Martin has provided nonjudgmental, sliding-scale, community-based healthcare to some of San Francisco's most marginalized populations: women, people of color, LBTQ people, low-income, poor, and homeless people, and people living with HIV. We care so much about animals and the environment, but I believe that we need healthy communities first.
