Gimmick Alert: 140-Character Previews of the Best Live Music This Week

Gimmick Alert: 140-Character Previews of Your Best Live Music Bets This Week

Swedish duo I Break Horses play Rickshaw Stop Thursday night.

Still bitter and baffled about promoters relocating this weekend’s electronica-centric I Love This City Music Festival from its original AT&T Park venue to the Shoreline? Us freakin’ too!  I’d recommend letting ‘em hear it on Twitter at @ILTCFestival. But good thing there’s plenty of cutting edge music to be heard within the city limits all week long to turn our collective frown slightly less upside-down.

In the spirit of grassroots tweetmobs, I present you with ridiculously cryptic 140-character (or less) tweet previews of this week’s best bets:

Sparta, The Independent, Monday

O.G. @AtTheDriveIn membrz reunited after 3-yr nap (btw, A.T.D.I. just did reconvened @Coachella). @Sparta is similarly proggy & #funashell

Dum Dum Girls, Slim’s, Tuesday

Lo-fi femme fatale rock in similar vein as @VivianGirls makes bros swoon and chicks wanna be ‘em. #duallust

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, The Independent, Tuesday

Lead singer sounding less shrieky these days, shades of @TalkingHeads, killed @OutsideLands last year in support of cool new album Hysterical

Spiritualized, The Fillmore, Wednesday

Singer Jason Piece a survivor in truest sense.  Album Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space is mind-melter of highest order

Blackbird Blackbird, Brick & Mortar, Wednesday

Local one-man sound engineer Mikey Maramag makes beautiful, experimental #chillwave, alternates between psych and dance-y

I Break Horses, Rickshaw Stop, Thursday

Swedish duo was an appropriate bedfellow to M83 on recent tour (which stopped at @FillmoreSF). Shoegaze-y and epic at once. #soakitin

Merle Haggard, The Warfield, Thursday

Country legend still as relevant as ever and championing his genre’s torchcarriers. Refreshing to see, refreshing to hear. #ButWhoWillCarryTheTorch?

Cass McCombs, Great American Music Hall, Friday

#Concord native is in mid-career form these days. Recent albums Catacombs, Wit’s End Humor Risk have caught the favor of critics #pitchforkdarlings

Lilac & Carletta Sue Kay, Lost Church, Saturday

LA dream pop duo Lilac drop new cassette Christine, unite w/ SF's veteran songstress Carletta Sue Kay at underground spot Lost Church
