Georgia on My Mind

Perhaps it was the White Stripes who brought audience deception back into fashion, but at some point it became rock de rigueur for musicians to screw with people’s heads Re: their personal history. So forgive Georgia-based Of Montreal if they’ve misled you about their origins, but, come on, it’s just a name. And the euphoria-inducing indie rockers do happen to have a way with the words: What’s not to like about their new album’s title: Hissing Fauna Are You the Destroyer? It’s just cracked out enough to ensure greatness, without taking itself too seriously. Personally, I’m already tapping my foot in anticipation of a live performance of the song my best friend Jess first introduced me to awhile back: “Wraith Pinned to the Mist,” which, semi-horrifyingly, has also been hijacked for a recent Outback Steak commercial. Sell your soul for a ticket to the sold out show at Bottom of the Hill (bottomofthehill.com) on Feb. 1 (their hope-crushing website proclaims “SOLD OUT!: No tickets will be available at the door either). Or act now and buy tickets to on of their two shows at Great American Music Hall on Feb. 2 and 3 (gamh.com).
