Love Can’t Wait For Lawmakers
When Zach Crawford and Matt Heron met at a Los Angeles birthday party it was love at first sight on both sides. “It’s hard to believe, but we both fell in love the instant we met—we just knew,” says Zach.
When it came to the wedding, the couple could have waited for Proposition 8 rulings to wend their way to a conclusion, but they decided that love can’t wait on the federal court. “Besides, we had been together for five years, and in gay guy terms, that’s like being together for 35 years,” says Zach. “It was time to get married.” The decided on an October 1, 2011 Lake Tahoe wedding (Zach grew up in the area) at Hyatt Incline Village.
The grooms (Zach is taller and wears glasses and works at a production company, Matt is an actor and you may have seen in him on sitcoms and commercials for Direct TV and Coke) answered some questions about the event whose theme was simply “fun”:
1. What was your favorite part of the wedding?
Dancing with our mothers, looking behind us during the ceremony and seeing so many beloved friends and family, with whom we have shared so many memories, looking at us with love and pride as we stood in front of them.
2. Tell me about your colorful socks?
Zach loves colored socks, no special meaning except they made for fun pictures.
3. What was the party after the ceremony like?
A large group of our friends from LA had been secretly meeting with a choreographer from Dancing with the Stars planning a three-part, three-song flash mob that literally took everyone by surprise. It was truly magical and, has gone viral. Besides this, if you looked around the room at any given moment during the reception, you would just see smiles, big smiles. If only we could have bottled the happiness in the room—we'd be millionaires!
4. What was the most meaningful part of the wedding, the one you will never forget?
Honestly, just marrying each other. After all was said and done, it means the most to us that we were doing this because we truly love each other and want to spend the rest of our lives together. We miss that day very much and still talk about it as if it were yesterday
5. Any advice to other couples planning a wedding?
Don't lose sight of why you’re planning the special day in the first place. Oh, and stock extra vino in the house during the planning process—it really helps!
