International Museum of Women Celebrates 100 Years of Change

If there's any organization that tries to value the lives of women around the world, I.M.O.W. does just that. Standing for "International Museum of Women," this social change museum inspires global action by amplifying the voices of women worldwide through online exhibitions, history, arts, and cultural programs that make the community.

Inside The Common SF, I.M.O.W. hosted their "Celebrating Change: Art Live Launch Party" on February 3 from 6-9 pm. The warmly-lit, intimate setting welcomed guests as they were able to look around at fashionable items made by Hunter Dixon, Taylor Stitch, Marine Layer, and Margaret Elizabeth. They also bellied up to the wooden tables that served delicious bites such as Paxti's Chicago Pizza, which were washed down with beverages from Brugal Rum and Green Planet Bottling. DJ Gabe Gavilanes had everyone grooving to music throughout the night.

This launch party was only a precursor event to I.M.O.W.'s Annual Benefit. This year, the 2011 gala was memorialized at Terra Gallery on March 10. Alongside celebrating 100 years of change and the centennial of International Women's Day, I.M.O.W also honored the Museum's founding President and Board Chair, Elizabeth Colton. Honorary Co-chairs inlcuded Lieutenant Governor of California, Gavin Newsom and his wife Jennifer.

The night was filled with wine, fine dining, and art installations. Nigerian American award-winning poet and recording artist, Iyeoka Ivie Okoawo, also made a special performance. After hours, the gala followed up with "Celebrating Change: Art Live Lounge," which featured music, cocktails, dessert, and art at Terra Gallery from 8-11 pm.

With almost 30 sponsors for this event, the International Museum of Women seems to be making progressive changes day by day.
