The ever-popular mixture of bikes, music and beer kicks into high gear this week when Tour de Fat and Tunes4Tubes roll into town.
Start your bike and music party off this Saturday with Tour de Fat, the annual bike and beer ballyhoo in Golden Gate Park. Now in its 10th year, this bike carnival has really perfected its act, bringing in some great local and national groups to round out the lineup of musicians and artists.
This year’s Tour de Fat kicks off with a bass-pumping parade by San Francisco’s Bike Party, and ends with Oakland’s popular band Beats Antique as the headliners. Be sure to also check out a live recording of the Moth at 1:30 pm. The party is free, and all proceeds from beer sales go to support the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition and Bay Area Ridge Trail. Saturday, September 21, 11am-5pm, Lindley Meadow in Golden Gate Park, free.
Still can’t get enough of music and bike combo (and how could you?), pedal on over to Tunes4Tubes at the Rickshaw Stop on Tuesday. Now in its second year, this philanthropic party is mixing bikes and local bands to support more bike lanes in SF. This year’s lineup features Con Brio, Whiskerman, and Cradle Duende.
The bands alone are a reason to pedal on over to this party, but Tunes4Tubes also have a really extensive auction with a plethora of bike gifts, art and adventures up for grabs, so you can score some new schwag and listen to great local bands. Tuesday, September 24, 6:30-11:00pm, Rickshaw Stop, $10.
Looking for an ongoing bikes and beats event? The San Francisco Bike Party holds a monthly group costumed group ride. This law-abiding, music-pumping, feel-good ride takes place the first Friday of every month. Next event: Friday, October 4, 8:00pm, free.
