Drink Here Now: 5 Places to Sip This Week

1. Amber Dhara's Ayurvedic Cocktails: Amber Dhara, the sister spot to Amber India on Valencia Street, just opened the doors to its enormous space (6,000 square feet!) a couple of days ago, serving the upscale takes on Indian fare that the mothership is known for. A new addition, however, is Nirupana Srivastava's lineup of $11 Ayurvedic cocktails, made according to the principles of Indian medicine (though we doubt they'd recommend the booze). The intriguing entries include the Belly Dancer (mezcal, Rhum Clement creole shrub, housemade aphrodisiac nectar, citrus, Madras spice rim) and the Blessed Monk (Hangar One Buddha's Hand vodka, goji liqueur, lemon basil, lemongrass, black pepper, coconut water). Check out the full menu here. (Sunday-Thursday, 5-11 pm, Friday-Saturday 5-11:30 pm, at Amber Dhara, 680 Valencia St., Mission.)

2. Bay Area Beer Olympics: Not to be confused with the weekly beer-pong party downtown, the Beer Olympics is a special edition of the Bay Area Brew Fest, with 25+ breweries (including Deschutes, Abita, Firestone Walker, Pacific Brewing Laboratories, and Sierra Nevada) pouring their best suds in honor of the London games. (Olympic attire is encouraged.) Tickets are $40 for general admission and $50 for VIPs, who get to enter the event an hour early and taste some rare and unusual beers in the early going. To soak up all that brew, they'll also have a bunch of food trucks on-site. (Saturday, July 28, VIPs 2-6 pm, general admission 3-6 pm, at Fort Mason, Festival Pavilion.)

3. Rock Bar's Jukebox Party: Rock Bar, the Front Porch's across-the-street sister spot in La Lengua, has recently acquired a new jukebox stocked with tunes from the Mission's beloved Aquarius Records. (Not sure how to choose between rarities like Blasted Canyons, Bow Wow, or Umberto? No problem-- they've got handwritten introductions for each selection.) To celebrate, they're throwing a jukebox party tonight with $3 pints of Trumer Pils and $5 Aquarius Gin Sling cocktails, not to mention snacks from Front Porch and a live show by Virgil Shaw. You can also go to town on their shuffleboard bowling machine-- it's only 25 cents per game. (Wednesday, July 25, 7 pm-12 am, at Rock Bar, 80 29th St., Bernal Heights/La Lengua.)

4. La Mar's Peruvian Independence Day Bash: This Saturday is Peruvian Independence Day, and the ceviche-slingers at La Mar are toasting the occasion with $5 pisco sours, a spicy ceviche made just for the holiday, and other special dishes like cuy (guinea pig, for the uninitiated-- it's a popular dish in Peru). The special menu runs all day, but if you drop by from 5:30-8:30 pm, they'll also have live criolla-style music. (Saturday, July 28, 11:30 am-2:30 pm and 5:30 pm-10 pm, at La Mar Cebicheria, Pier 1.5, Embarcadero.)

5. Mixologi at the Phoenix Hotel: Spend a sunny Sunday afternoon by the Phoenix Hotel pool (pictured above) with the folks from Mixologi, who'll be bringing their unique blend of music and culture to bear on a daytime dance party. Acts will include Mackswell, KingMost, Wonway Posibul, DJ CAMS, Lionize, and Carlito, while Chambers Eat + Drink will provide booze and brunch. Check out their FAQ for more info, and RSVP here to get on the guest list. (Sunday, July 29, 1 pm, at the Phoenix Hotel, 601 Eddy St., Tenderloin.)
