Marlowe: Seasonless Essentials Made for SF

By

With all the fast fashion buzzing around Union Square and beyond, it's refreshing to see its complete opposite sprout up in the heart of it all.

Meet Marlowe.

Quietly launched two months ago, the luxury Italian cashmere brand hopes to reinvent your wardrobe with timeless, seasonless investment pieces crafted exclusively in Italy.

When you set foot into the sleek shop (think Italian stone floors, pulverized marble walls and custom oak furniture), prepare yourself for a mindblowing mix-and-match adventure. Everything, and we mean everything, complements each other in a fresh way.

Pair the lightweight white wool/silk belted jacket with flat-front trousers for a smart monochromatic look that's equally suited for work or a cocktail party. Perhaps you'd rather toss it on over a dress or pair it with the coordinating skirt and a bold-hued sweater for a chic summertime ensemble. The options are practically endless.

But what we found most surprising (and exciting) about Marlowe is that their expertise extends way past cashmere sweaters and suiting. Their 'novelty' pieces are anything but, and we desperately want every accessory in the shop. In addition to an insanely soft cashmere wrap flecked with tiny pearls, you can (and should) adorn your shoulders in sequin mesh and laser-cut floral versions as well. We also found our dream travel (and day-to-day) bag in crocodile that's designed to fit your laptop in the front zip pocket.

While they're best known for their modern suiting and cashmere sweaters that, by the way, don't wrinkle, we've also fallen head over heels with a minimalist white drape neck belted wool dress and a 3D floral topper that gives a subtle nod to the timeless Jackie O. Oh, and a weather resistant wool/silk trench coat is destined to become the SF girl's best friend.

Yes, we could go on and on about how we think we've officially converted to the world of investment dressing, but really, you should just go see for yourself.

Marlowe, 231 Grant Ave., b/t Sutter and Post Sts., 415-986-2845.
