National Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month in Tahoe

January is National Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month, and in celebration several Tahoe ski resorts are offering specials for beginner skiers and boarders throughout the month of January. If you have never learned to ski or board, this is your chance to try it out for a low cost in a friendly atmosphere. All the resorts's specials can be accessed from the Go Tahoe North website.

Boreal Mountain Resort

Boreal is offering a Take 3, Ride FREE program that’s hard to pass up. Take three lessons between Jan. 6 and Feb. 14 and receive a free season pass. The $129 online only package provides rental equipment for each 90-minute lesson with a professional instructor.

Diamond Peak

From January 13-17, Diamond Peak is offering beginners a lift ticket, equipment rental and a one-hour 45-minute lesson between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. for $39 for a savings of up to $71. No reservations are required for this special.

Homewood

The local's favorite, Homewood, is going beyond the month of January and is offering beginners specials for the entire season. For only $49 you can get a lift ticket, rentals and a lesson online a day before hitting the slopes. This is a $40 savings over the regular cost and is available Sunday through Friday. Homewood also offers free intermediate and advanced lessons at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

Kirkwood

At this resort on the south side of the lake you can learn to ski or board this January by taking two lessons and getting the third lesson for free. Both private and group lessons are available.

Mount Rose Ski Tahoe

The local favorite is offering an $89 First Timer Package that includes a two-hour lesson, beginner lift ticket and rental equipment. This is a great opportunity for beginners, ages 11+, to get a feel for the mountain throughout the winter.

Northstar-at-Tahoe

Northstar-at-Tahoe is offering a variety of lesson packages for beginners to advanced skiers and snowboarders. The popular resort is offering a Three Day Passport for the rest of the season. For just $249, you get three days of lessons, lift tickets accessing beginner terrain and equipment rentals. Days do not need to be consecutive, so you can use them at your convenience through the end of the season. Northstar is also offering free advanced lessons Monday through Friday through the end of the season.

Squaw Valley & Alpine Meadows

Every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from January 14-30 beginners only pay $49 for a lift ticket, rentals and lessons for adults and kids age 3+.

Sugar Bowl

Sugar Bowl offers a Learn to Ski and Ride Development program for $89-$99. This is a full day event that operates on both sides of the mountain, even on holidays. With a 3:1 student to instructor ratio, beginners are sure to conquer their goals.

Tahoe-Donner

Beginners at the Tahoe-Donner Downhill Ski Area are sure to excel at the uncrowded resort. First timers receive an all day lift ticket, rentals and two-hour group lesson for January 13-16. The Cross Country Ski Center will also feature Learn to Ski packages for those looking to try cross-country skiing instead of downhill.
