Pioneering Past to Present with Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance

By

Fear not—boundaries are one thing Bill T. Jones is not afraid of. Known worldwide as a pioneer of sociopolitical dance theater, Jones doesn’t hesitate to cause a stir with provocative, thought-provoking work. Exploring the area where art, history and politics combine is the Tony Award-winning choreographer’s forte, as demonstrated in the West Coast premiere of Fondly Do We Hope … Fervently Do We Pray

In celebration of Arnie Zane Dance Company's 25th anniversary and bicentennial of Abraham Lincoln's birth, this performance highlights the history and identity of one of America’s most admired and complex political figures from a modern perspective. The piece asks you to consider what is and what could have been had Lincoln's vision for the reconstruction of our country been fully realized long ago. Transporting us beyond space and time, through song and dance, Jones enables the memory of key accomplishments in Lincoln’s life to live on eternally.

Recognized for its intensely collaborative method of creation including a diverse array of artists and art forms, the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company always delivers the unexpected with varied subject matter, imagery, style, movement and voice, establishing the troupe as a free-thinking entity eager to challenge traditional notions.

Fondly Do We Hope … Fervently Do We Pray is part of an artist series presented by YBCA under the Big Idea, Heroes and Heroics, a forum for work highlighting intrepid individuals who search for a way to bring order to the world in which we live.

Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company performs at YBCA’s Novellus Theater, 700 Howard St., 10/1 - 10/3 at 8 p.m., $30
