Pop Quiz! An SF Pop Culture Pop Quiz from popchips

Pop Quiz! An SF Pop Culture Pop Quiz from popchips

By

Our sister magazine SPIN and popchips have teamed up to support local bands through an initiative called popup live, a fan-driven competition designed to expose new music. Beginning this morning, they've published over 250 free tracks from bands in five cities (New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Seattle and San Francisco) that popchips and Spin think are poised to make it big. Check out which bands made the San Francisco cut on popchips' SF facebook page, and vote for your favorite tracks.

Every single download counts as a vote for that band, and on September 12th, the four bands with the most downloads from each city will advance to the semi-finals and win $500 cash prize as well as a "pop up live kit" to help them create their own unique pop up live concert. So cast your vote for the local band you think is going to be the next big thing!

And for this week's popchips pop culture pop quiz we're paying homage to Bay Area-bred bands who have made it big time. (Every week this summer we're testing your local knowledge with SF Pop Culture Pop Quizzes. Follow and tweet to @popchips and @popchipsSF for your chance to win a...wait for it...month's supply of popchips.)

Here's this week's question.

Which Bay-Area band, who has gone on to win five Grammy Awards, was originally named Sweet Children (when the band members were 15 years old?)

Go! Your popchips await.
