If you need an incentive to make an eye appointment, here's one. Fashion's recent love affair with vintage-inspired frames, both prescription and non, have people experimenting for the better. A handsome frame can add a personal touch to any look. Sunglasses are always in vogue, but we're finding that boys do make passes at girls who wear glasses. Have a gander at the city's new and tried and true optical shops.

The Minimalist: Warby Parker Showroom in The Parish Trust

If you're in a New York frame of mind, make an appointment at Warby Parker's showroom within Divisadero's The Parish Trust. The NYC-based industry newbie Parker is reinventing the wheel with stylish vintage-inspired eyewear with a philanthropic twist—the company donates one pair of glasses to a non-profit partner for every pair purchased. Every frame is $95 and has anti-reflective, polycarbonate prescription lenses. A peruse through The Parish Trust's charming antiques shop is an added bonus.

Sunglasses and specs in an array of colors and styles have an overarching chic to them. A new collection with Jean Paul Gaultier is perfectly timed with the de Young museum's upcoming Gaultier exhibit.
