SF Opera Lab Brings Interactive Opera to Oakland Nightclub

By

Get ready for an evening of interactive operatic mischief.

Launched last spring, SF Opera Lab strives to bring operatic music and performances outside of the War Memorial Opera House and into small, unusual spaces around the Bay Area. This month's venue, a nightclub in Uptown Oakland, is not exactly where you would expect opera to be belted out on stage.

On Thursday, March 23rd, the Opera Lab is hosting their first pop-up outside of San Francisco at the Uptown Nightclub on Broadway. The event is curated by stage director and current San Francisco Opera Adler Fellow Aria Umezawa and will feature performances by other Adler Fellows. Umezawa is known to bring people up on stage, so don't be surprised if you find yourself suddenly part of the performance. After the show, a live DJ will set the mood for guests to dance the night away. It is a nightclub after all.

Screening of The Triplets of Belleville with live music at SF Opera Lab in the city.

// $25. Thursday, March 23, doors @ 7:30 p.m., show @ 8:30 p.m., The Uptown Nightclub at 1928 Telegraph Avenue (Oakland), Get tickets at sfoperalab.com
