Legendary Bay Area garage maniacs the Coachwhips are opening the crypt and reissuing (and streaming!) their album Hands On the Controls on vinyl for the first time.If you get your hands on it, you'll likely play it so loud, the neighbors will file a noise complaint. [via Brooklyn Vegan]

Oakland-based trio Mortar & Pestle have a self-titled debut EP coming out, and to celebrate, they released a filmed-in-Oakland video of a couple on LSD for their chilled-out first single "UV." Check it out. [via email PR land]

The Tambo Rays switched it up this week with the release of their new track "Take Dat," which features band member Sara Sonic on the mic, boasting a reggae-tinged Blondie swagger, while still delivering that clean, dreamy sound the band kills with. Lots of people are stoked for Lady Gaga's upcoming new album for many reasons. The reason we can't wait to hear it is because of her collaboration with Oakland MC Too $hort. We don't know much about the song yet, but Gaga gave Short a major shout-out during last week's MTV VMAs, so it's clear that the respect and the excitement about the track ain't fake. The MC himself even said "It's a big fucking deal." [via]

And in MORE Oakland news, Labor Day has become known as Heiro Day. Heiroglyphics will throw a free, all-day hip hop show at the Linden Street Brewery.
