"Temporary Structures"
From architecture to video, illustration and performance art, there is something to tickle everyone's fancy at SFAI's newest exhibition: "Temporary Structures." Featuring more than a dozen world-renowned artists, the group collaboration is aimed at reflecting acts of cultural transformation through topics such as politics, social matters, and the Occupy movement.
When: 9/14-12/15, Thursday through Sunday, 11 a.m. - 6 p.m.

Deerhoof
Described by The New York Times as "one of the most original rock bands to have come along in the last decade," Deerhoof is well on their way to stardom. Don't miss out on rocking with the San Francisco born indie-pop-rock band at Slim's.

Local
America's Cup + Fleet Week
The infamous attractions are joining forces this year for a simultaneous flight show in the sky and on the San Francisco Bay. With an anticipated crowd of nearly one million, the collaborated event is not one to be missed.

Art Gallery Week



















The first annual Art Gallery Week brings together more than 25 venues—including Catharine Clark Gallery, Crown Point Press, Ever Gold, and Gallery Paule Anglim—for 10 days of artist talks, panel discussions, live music, and poetry readings. Bring your paints and brushes to the galleries' collection box for all art supplies, all of which will be donated to San Francisco Arts Education.

Laura Marling
The London-born singer/songwriter and guitarist—who recorded her first album at the age of 17—just released her third album and is stopping in San Francisco as part of her "Working Holiday" tour.

Art
Cope2 Exhibit
Though his graffiti made him infamous and widely recognized in New York, artist Cope2 has transitioned to focus more on studio work. This can be seen in his exhibition entitled "The Rebirth" at Project One Gallery.

Nightlife
Public Works Two-Year Anniversary
Come celebrate the Mission's event and community space for their two-year anniversary blowout bash. The party, also a fundraiser aimed at benefiting local nonprofits, will feature Bay Area DJs who will be spinning tunes into the wee hours of the morning.

Film
Mill Valley Film Festival
Mill Valley is joining the likes of Cannes, Sundance, and Tribeca as a player on the international film festival circuit. Known in local circles as the filmmakers' fest, the 35th annual Mill Valley Film Festival is dedicated to promoting Bay Area talent. Look for Gillian Grisman's Village Music: Last of the Great Record Stores, a documentary on the closing of a musical icon. Keep your eyes peeled for big celebrity sightings—the festival has drawn Clive Owen, Ed Norton, and Uma Thurman to the proverbial red carpet.

Hardly Strictly Bluegrass + Jenny Lewis Night Show at GAMH
The festival marks its 12th anniversary this year and is celebrating with more than 80 bands. Still one of the biggest music concerts of the year, it remains totally free of cost! If you need a break from bluegrass, head on over to GAMH to get your indie-rock fix with veteran musician Jenny Lewis.
When: Fri. 10/5–Sun. 10/7 and Sat. 10/6, respectively

Florence and the Machine
The dog days are still on for Florence + the Machine. Expect a performance both musical and sartorial: English fashion darling Florence Welch is known for her onstage couture. Our fingers are crossed for renditions of "Breath of Life" and "Spectrum"—its vinyl release cover artwork was shot by Karl Lagerfeld, and David LaChapelle directed the video.

Literature
Litquake
Book nerds can bliss out for nine straight days at Litquake. Look for all things literary, from silly—see Daniel Handler and Andrew Sean Greer answer queries pulled from a fishbowl at Z Space on the 11th—to dead serious. The real party happens on closing night with Lit Crawl (Oct. 13). where books and booze come together for intoxicating results. Included on this year's circuit: a stop at Different Fur Studios, which as hosted recording sessions with Public Enemy and Will.i.am, and 7x7's own exploration of the modern memoir at the Lone Palm.
