Southern Exposure's 11th Annual Monster Drawing Rally Bigger Than Ever

For the past ten years, hundreds of Bay Area artists worth their weight in art supplies have taken a seat at Southern Exposure's Monster Drawing Rally to furiously, brilliantly scribble and create original pieces in a live setting to raise money for the arts community's Artists in Education program. Once a piece is done, you can purchase it while it's still warm from the artist's hand.

At any given time, 30 of them will be drawing simultaneously using the basic necessities--pencils, charcoal, pens, paper, markers and ink--provided by SoEx, and as soon as they're done, every piece will be immediately hung on the wall and cost $60, hot off the presses. It could get messy.

Now in its eleventh year, the event just keeps getting bigger. It's now a national fundraising role model for nonprofit arts organizations in LA, Minneapolis, Brooklyn and beyond, who have all begun their own Monster Drawing Rallies, hoping to make the arts accessible to anyone and everyone.

Here are just a few of the notable names who will be in action this Friday, Feb. 25: Lisa Congdon, Kelly Tunstall, Serena Mitnik-Miller of General Store, Ryan de la Hoz and more. See the entire roster here!

11th Annual Monster Drawing Rally on Friday Feb. 25, from 6-11 pm at the Verdi Club, 2424 Mariposa St., donate $10 and up for admission.
