Foodie Updates: Another Top Chef Coming to Town, Lers Ros Closed by Health Department, and More

Top Chef Season 3 runner up Casey Thompson dominates this week's food headlines, with the news that she's finally opening a long-planned Bay Area restaurant of her own. Also up, Lers Ros in Hayes Valley gets shuttered by the health department, and former Oenotri chef Curtis di Fede is opening a ramen shop in Napa.

First up, the talented onetime Dallas chef Casey Thompson is aiming for a spring opening for her first Bay Area restaurant, Aveline. The concept is "modern California" with "refined casual fare," and the restaurant is moving into the space soon to be vacated by La Scene in the Warwick Hotel near Union Square (490 Geary). Also, she and Beretta guy Adam Wilson are opening The European, a new cocktail spot next door. It's been five years since Thompson was on Top Chef (she also did Top Chef All Stars in 2010), and she's spent most of it living up in Napa working as a chef outside the restaurant industry. So, she's not out of practice, and we're looking forward to this one. [Inside Scoop]

Lers Ros's Hayes Street location was shuttered by health inspectors on Thursday after the discovery of a roach infestation. Yeah, gross.  Their license has been suspended pending a cleanup, and it's unclear how long the closure will last. [SFist]

Also big in the news, Andalu (16th and Guerrero) is ending a 12-year run in the Mission come New Year's Eve. In its place, next year, will be a cool sounding new modern Chinese joint called Chino that's a partnership between chef Brandon Jew (formerly of Bar Agricole) and Tacolicious owner Joe Hargrave. This is coming about a year in advance of Brandon's aforementioned and equally exciting Chinatown project. [Inside Scoop]

Daniel Patterson's Alta CA (1420 Market Street) looks to be aiming for a Thanksgiving week opening, but we'll update you as we learn more. [7x7]

Up in Napa, chef Curtis di Fede, who parted ways with Oenotri last year, is plotting his own ramen joint. The exact location is still not finalized. [Inside Scoop]
