New Ballpark Grub: Can You Say "Bacon-Wrapped"?
In the past few years I've heard of other ballparks in America serving "gourmet" fare—sushi in Seattle, Cuban sandwiches in Miami, fish tacos in San Diego. At AT&T Park the food has historically been pretty standard—hot dogs, garlic fries, beer. But starting on Monday, opening day, there's a new game in town. Tres Agaves has taken over the three concession stands formerly leased by Compadres, so eating at the game is about to get a lot better. What's in store?
Nachos, made with housemade chips, real cheese sauce (no Whiz), pico de gallo and Tres Agaves' legendary carnitas.
Taco trios (your choice of chicken or pork)
and ... wait for it ...
Bacon-wrapped hot dogs!! We're still mourning the departure of the Let's Be Frank cart from stadium grounds, but this is a nice panacea. (Apparently, according to several sources, there's something of a Hot Dog-Gate going down at the park. Vendors must promise to serve dogs purchased from a single supplier and since Let's Be Frank wasn't on board with using said supplier they were ousted.) Tres Agaves' all-beef dogs will be topped with cucumber pico de gallo, served on a top-loaded bun that's been toasted in a little butter. Beer, of course, will be served, along with limeade made with fresh juice and aqua frescas, with plans to serve their killer margaritas in the future.
Best of all, Tres Agaves will be using their own kitchen to prepare the food, rather that the AT&T Park commissary kitchen—so their meats will be all cooked over a wood fire, just as they are at the restaurant. Two of the stands are on the concourse level (one by section 130 on the third baseline, the other by the Third Street entrance and first baseline) and the third is on the view level, directly behind home plate.
