Food Truck Friday in Napa: Wine and Street Eats

By

When you put 10 food trucks together in a square in Napa, along with a BYOW (bring-your-own-wine) vibe, it's no surprise that a party ensues. Which is what goes down the first Friday of every month at Oxbow Public Market. Locals and visitors alike bring chairs, large, expensive Ridel wine glasses and get to eatin.' Here's a list of the 10 trucks that grace this lively gathering. (6 pm till midnight the first Friday of every month).

Marks the Spot’s slogan is “Prepared Slow. Served Fast” and despite the long lines, they do exactly that. Serving “Ooh Girl Chicken and Baby Bubba Burgers” along with “Who Let the Dog Out" and What the Duck?,"  this BBQ is my top pick of the trucks.

Phat Salads and Wraps serves a number of creative salads like the New Yorker, which comes with crispy fried onions. They also serve staples like the Classic Caesar and Californian BLT.  This is a tasty, mostly healthy option.

Street–eatz has a little something for everyone -- from Chicken Pasta to Grilled Mahi Mahi Tacos.

Dim Sum Charlie’s is likely the most famous truck up here. Their honey baked BBQ pork bun has made them just as famous as their Dumplings and other “Almighty Traditionals.”

More of a “stand” than a “truck," Vienna Beef got their start in 1893 at the World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago. They're just about as American as it gets, despite their Austria-Hungarian roots.

BBQ Oysters: Can’t go wrong with this aphrodisiac. It’s an excellent way to start the evening before sampling from other trucks and stands. Much like the Hog Island Oyster Bar inside the Oxbow Market, there are lots of tasty options and accompaniments.

Cochon Volant, or “Flying Pig” is all about BBQ. Tasty, slow smoked, naturally-produced pork shoulder and beef ribs are the specialty here.

Fork Catering has all kinds of seasonal and sustainable bites, but what got me going was the full service coffee and espresso bar.

Karma Mobile Indian: From Masala to Chicken Kali wraps, this affordable mobile Indian truck offers a nice break from the BBQ and American foods. They make a killer Chai too.

Kara’s Cupcakes is another crowd favorite. No matter what you've eaten, save room for a chocolate velvet cupcake or a caramel filled fleur de sel… mmmmmm.
