Living the Summer Dream at Francis Ford Coppola Winery

Living the Summer Dream at Francis Ford Coppola Winery

It’s no secret that you can’t exactly have a pool day in San Francisco. You know, pool days, those days by the pool with a cold, adult beverage in hand, so hot that you can’t help but jump in the pool every so often to stay comfortable. Yeah, you can’t do that in San Francisco. However, that summer pool day you may be longing for isn’t too far away–it's just across Highway 101 in Sonoma County at Francis Ford Coppola Winery. That’s right, vino and pool time.

If you’re looking for an offbeat, deep-in-the-heart-of-Sonoma winery experience, this isn’t it. Located literally, right off Highway 101 just past Healdsburg in Geyserville, Francis Ford Coppola Winery gets a lot of traffic since it’s right off the highway. Not to mention the appeal of the winery due to Francis Ford Coppola’s acclaim as one of the world’s most well-known film directors. However, nowhere else in Northern California are you going to find a pool at a winery like you will at Francis Ford Coppola Winery.

The pool’s vibe has much of the same feeling like you would find at a resort, beautiful view included. After walking through the gate and checking in, guests are directed to the pool area, which includes a long set of cabines (personal changing rooms) lining the back of the pool area, the pool bar, and cushioned lounge chairs and umbrellas circling the 3,600-square foot pool area. Servers walk around taking food and drink orders, which include beer, cocktails, and Coppola wine. The food menu features appetizers, sandwiches, and personal pizzas. On the far end of the pool are several bocce ball courts.

Now to the brass tacks; how much does it cost to spend an afternoon by the pool at Francis Ford Coppola Winery? That depends on a lot of factors, but if you’re just going by yourself for the day, then a daily pass is $20. However, I would consider going in with a group of friends for one of the Cabine packages. These come with your own cabine for changing and showering, four pool passes, up to four lounge chairs, four towels, two wine tasting flights, two ‘surprise' tastes of exclusive wines, and two souvenir water bottles. The cabine packages are typically $125 for guests and $100 for wine club members, but during June and September, there is a special price during the week of $100 for non-members and $90 for members.

Francis Ford Coppola Winery is definitely one of the most unique ways to spend the day at a winery. With a restaurant and bar, tasting room, and pool all on-site, you could easily spend an entire day here. If you’re planning a visit though, book far in advance. Weekends at the pool are currently booked until September.
