Do you prefer timelessness over trends? Special pieces with sweet vintage vibes and a Western soul? Folk Saint has your number. Just launched by fashion designer and Woodacre resident Ashley Castaños (formerly co-owner of bridal line Daughters of Simone), Folk Saint’s spring collection brings nostalgic feels while still managing to be utterly relevant (no easy feat).

The debut collection of delightful dresses, blouses, and pants comes in a range of silhouettes using sustainable fabrics: think ‘60s-style minidresses with western details, bell bottoms that ooze ’70s grooviness, and oversized menswear shirts. The queen bee of the collection is unquestionably the Dahlia Dress, a full-length 1920s-inspired stunner with a loose fit, dainty collar, subtle puffed shoulder, flowing skirt, and FS’s signature Western yoke on both front and back.

Folk Saint’s limited-edition fabrics—reimagined vintage textiles printed on soft viscose—are also major statement-makers. It’s impossible not to be smitten with Kindred Floral, a romantic, delicate reinterpretation of a rare, embroidered upholstery fabric.

The collection was fueled by Castaños’ love of vintage. “I pulled out some of my favorite garments—the ones that are quick to catch a stranger’s eye, ignite curiosity, tell a story—and discovered many of them were scavenged during my travels with Songe,” she explains.

Songe, a lifelong friend of Castaños’, passed away from a rare cancer in 2019. “In the process of grieving her loss, I found solace while breathing new life into these garments she so affectionately loved.”

Folk Saint is named in her honor.

If zhuzhing up a room in your home while also supporting a woman-founded brand, students from San Francisco’s Academy of Art University (AAU) fashion department, and Inner City Arts sounds good, get in on the action: shop Black Crow Studios’ edgy new Rebellion III collection.

Black Crow Studios founder Tracy Hiner—an AAU alum now living in SoCal—partners with the school every year as a way to make industry opportunities more accessible to students.

Working with designs from students Aimée Hironaka Juteau and Claudia A. Nicholas, this capsule features 20 striking, large-scale mural patterns inspired by iconic California landscapes. The wallcoverings come in the studio’s smooth matte finish or the just-launched raw texture substrate, which is PVC-free and feels like handmade paper. Some of our favorite designs include Death Valley in Midnight and Redwoods in Cinnabar.
