Nicasio is worth visiting for it's almost unbelieveable bucolic charm that few towns still possess (Nicasio actually means "the hidden one"). However, it's current draw, Rancho Nicasio, also has quite the weekend of music lined up. First up, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame member, Americana Lifetime Achievement Winner, and legendary "Queen of Rockabilly," Wanda Jackson. No joke, she is credited as the first woman ever to record a rock and roll song in 1958 and will be a delight and honor to witness on stage. The honky tonk group Red Meat opens for her (how could you miss a band with a name like that?!) Sat. 11/9, 8:30 p.m. $25. Blues queen Ruthie Foster plays on Sunday evening with her Texas band. Sun. 11/10 8 p.m. $25. Tickets are available by phone (415) 662-2219 or at the door.
You don't have to drive four hours to South Lake Tahoe to get some gambling or crapshooting in. According to the brand spanking new Graton Resort & Casino (that just opened last Tuesday), it's only "43 minutes north of San Francisco." The casino boasts 3,000 slot machines, 144 tables and 13 dining options including an M.Y. China and Tony's of North Beach. They've even got Three Twins ice cream on hand. If you're feeling lucky, get off at Hwy 101 Rohnert Park exit 484A.
Two months of Saturday night movies have marked the 37th annual Italian Film Festival, which has been a labor of love for its longtime director, Lido Cantarutti, from the beginning. This weekend's closing night features the romantic comedy, Il Giorno in Piu (One Day More). A man meets a woman on a streetcar and becomes obsessed, only to find out she is about to depart for a job in New York. Sat., 11/9, 5:30 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. $14, get tickets here.
