The Socalled Movie, screening next Tuesday at the 30th annual SF Jewish Film Festival, is a dynamic portrait of the musician, rapper, composer, filmmaker and overall wizard Josh Dolgin (aka Socalled).

The film was shot partly in Socalled’s Montreal neighborhood, where Hasidic Jews and hipsters crowd the sidewalks, and follows the artist on tour in New York, France and through an emotionally spiritual trip back to his ancestral home of Ukraine.

Check out the trailer:

The film is screening next Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at 9:15pm at the Castro Theatre. Following the film, there will be a special live performance featuring Socalled and singer Katie Moore.
