Independence Day may be over and the magic of fireworks have fizzled out, but it doesn't mean the fun has to stop. Things are about to get even better with this weekend's selection of events. And, with alternate measures of transportations back in full swing, there's no excuse why you shouldn't be in the East Bay.


Beast Crawl 2013: East Bay Literature Pub Crawl This Saturday, Beast Crawl's invading Uptown Oakland and marking it with beastly word appeal. More that 140 writers will bless mics in 26 local galleries, bars, storefronts, coffeehouses, and restaurants. Be prepared for three free hours of literary genius followed by a monstrous after-party in a single night. Onlookers are encouraged to browse Crawl Maps online to plan routes to the reading sites in advance.

Jazz at Sunrise Series w/ Calvin Keys Come get a melodic breakfast that feeds both the ears and the soul on Sunday morning at Five Flavors Herbs. The herb shop is kicking off the Jazz at Sunrise Series featuring the renowned guitarist Calvin Keys and the Calvin Keys Trio. Complimentary herbal tea, fresh roasted coffee, and pastries will be served. Tours of the herbal medicine and chocolate-making facility are also available, as well as Jazz at Sunrise acupuncture specials.

10th Temescal Street FairIt's baaaaaack! The Temescal Street fair is in full effect with numerous eats and activities for those of all ages. This year's event on July 7 will have three food courts and stages for local performers and 150 booths showcasing local artistry and handmade crafts. During the festivities, feel free to check out the neighborhood's traditional glass storefronts, vibrant street banners, tasty food hubs, and everything else that adds to the richness of historic North Oakland.
