Hot 30: Scott Baird and Josh Harris of The Bon Vivants

It’s Indian summer in San Francisco, and temperatures are on the rise. As are the local luminaries in our annual Hot 20, er . . . Hot 30. That’s right. We were so impressed by the crop of talent and brains moving the needle this year—in fields as diverse as technology, music, education, sports, and arts—that we added 10 bright stars to our list.
In a city with more badass bartenders than you can shake a swizzle stick at, Scott Baird (right) and Josh Harris of The Bon Vivants have definitely made a name for themselves— right on the top shelf. The talented duo, who are also known for throwing one-of-a-kind parties, met while “behind the stick” at 15 Romolo and then started consulting on projects together—among them, their almost-too-good tequila-based cocktail program at Berkeley’s Comal (which also has one of the more thoughtfully assembled mezcal lists in the Bay Area). Their latest bar, Rio Grande at A Temporary Offering in Civic Center, simplifies things with a rock ’n’ roll list focused on whiskeys, tequilas, and mezcals. Meanwhile, the city awaits Trick Dog, their neighborhood bar (with Rio Grande partner Jason Henton) opening soon next door to Central Kitchen in the Mission.
