Lowering the Bar: 5 Places to Drink for Cheap (or Free) This Week

By

1. Eastside West Wednesdays: After a long day at work, LTB's priority list usually consists of a drink, something nourishing to eat, and some nice music on the stereo. Now, Eastside West has offered to let humpday sufferers enjoy all of these things in public. Every Wednesday night, $8 buys you your choice of a burger or sandwich, and it comes with either a beer or a glass of wine. And they have live jazz! This is a deal that all cardinal directions can get behind. (Wednesdays, all night, at Eastside West, 3154 Fillmore St., Marina.)

2. Ladies Wine-d Up at CAV: The Upper Market wine bar CAV is looking to lure in the ladies, and we all know that ladies like wine. So call up the girls and bring them down for $5 glasses of vino on Friday nights. They even have a lady DJ! Ladies! (Fridays, 5-8 pm, at CAV Wine Bar and Kitchen, 1666 Market St., Upper Market.)

3. Pasta Moto Happy Hour: We have done many things in pursuit of cheap drinks: attended weird parties where we knew no one, ventured to the outermost reaches of neighborhoods we've never heard of, sipped horrific concoctions made with weird novelty liquors. But none of that matters, because now we can do the laziest, most American form of drinking possible: go to happy hour in a mall. Yup, a mall. The Italian place in the Westfield Centre food court has $3 beers and glasses of wine and $5 pizza margherita and pasta pomodoro during its "Social Hour." If you can make it there, you can make it anywhere. (Daily, 5-7 pm, at Pasta Moto, Westfield San Francisco Centre, 845 Market St., Mid-Market.)

4. Pizza Orgasmica Happy Hour: If Pizza Moto whets your appetite for pizza-based happy hours, try visiting the Financial District location of Pizza Orgasmica, which offers $3 house-brewed beers and $8.50 all-you-can-eat slices during the week from 4 to 7 pm. Fill up on pizza after work, then catch a movie at the Embarcadero cinemas right down the street. (Monday-Friday, 4-7 pm, at Pizza Orgasmica Embarcadero, 2 Embarcadero Center, Financial District.)

5. World Cup Finals at Pisco: This Latin lounge will probably be pushing for Spain, but Netherlands fans are equally welcome to drink during its World Cup happy hour, starting at 11:30 am. Beers are $3, team-themed cocktails are $5, and piqueos and tapas start at $3.50. Either way, you win. (Sunday, July 11th, 11:30 am-2 pm, at Pisco Latin Lounge, 1817 Market St., Upper Market.)
